If you are wondering about the beautiful flower on the front of this book, it is called a spider lily (Hymenocallis - Amaryllidaceae) -and they grow in meadows and rocky terrain from the southern parts of the United States to Peru. Their origins are traced to the rocky terrain of the Andes. (They can also be grown as a fabulous seasonal plant grown in large pots on the porch - even in Vermont!) There are about 40 species of these bulbous perennials and the blooms are not only beautiful, they are also highly perfumed. The photographic reproductions in this book are very fine and glorious and of the highest quality. Anyone that loves flowers will enjoy many sacred moments perusing the pages of this book.
