Our full service bakery is actually a store within a store! We make whole grain breads, pastries, bagels, muffins, scones, danish and croissants every day, all from scratch. No par-bakes, no frozen stuff.
We offer reasonably priced country fare - breakfast, lunch and early suppers. Soups of all nations, both hearty and delicate, are our specialty. Come in, relax, browse, work on your laptop (we have a superfast connection), and get a delicious soup with freshly made bread for only $2.75!! (plus tax)
Nutty Steph's marvelous chocolate bars, Greene's Hot Sauces, and the Ginger People's yummy ginger cream spread are just a few of the gourmet condiments and foodstuffs we carry to round out our offerings.
Perhaps the most important aspect of the bakery business is that we work with dozens of local purveyors, growers and producers. There are so many neighbors and local businesses to buy ingredients from - berries all summer, wild mushrooms, honey, maple syrup, all kinds of garden produce, meats, cheeses, grains, candy, ice creams, and more. We employ plumbers, electricians, appliance repair geniuses, and inspired sign-makers. And we support (are supported by) a fantastic crew - helping to make beautiful food, to present it to our customers and to help clean up the mess - every day. So while the bookstore business is pretty even tempered and self-contained, the food business is high energy, with lots of action and challenges. The rewards are significant - feeding people is a responsibility and the love and appreciation we receive in return is huge.
Offering a full espresso bar and beautiful coffees, teas, chais, yerba mate, and gourmet hot chocolates including a white vanilla chocolate, an Aztec cocoa and an Ecuadorian style hot cocoa. We proudly serve
VERMONT COFFEE COMPANY java brews, (from Middlebury Vermont), VERMONT LIBERTY TEA from Waterbury, and VERMONT TEA AND TRADING tea blends from nearby Ripton. All of these folks are within about 30 miles of us.
We are also especially proud of our affiliation with Strafford Organic Creamery, from whom we get all our fresh milk - local farm, hard working folks, glass bottles, beautiful milk - and our meat producers North Hollow Farm and Riverside Farm, both from our home town.
We also serve local brews, wines, and delicious meads from HONEY GARDENS. Sunday morning Mimosas are a fine and beautiful thing.
All kinds of pies - both sweet and savory. Almost every nation has it's indigenous tasty pie. PIE IS GOOD! And of course CAKES. Special order cakes for birthdays, weddings, no problem.
